CHRIST ESTEEM

Where the search for self-esteem ends

Excerpts from the book by Don Matzat published by Harvest House Publishers, Eugene oregon 97402

Pastor Don Matzat has the right response for those who find themselves wallowing in the ever-rising flood of humanistic psychology. Their question generally is, Who are we and why are we so unhappy?

Mankind does not have a problem, mankind is the problem. Only Jesus Christ can be the solution.

By making a sharp distinction between Christianity and psychotherapy, CHRIST-ESTEEM helps to clear up the confusion which exists in the minds of many.

Dr. James Kennedy, Ph.D., Senior Minister, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Have a problem? Popular thinking tells us the answer lies inside ourselves; Jesus tells us something different.

Psychology says Look within yourself: find self-esteem, self-fulfillment, self-analysis...
Is your marriage in trouble? Then you must need more self-esteem.
Confused about your careet? Perhaps you need to search for self-fulfillment.
Depressed? Maybe self-analysis is your only hope.

People are desperately looking inward, trying to find answers.
Many have looked and come up short. Instead of providing answers, the quest within often adds to the confusion.

The answer is seen when you realize that what is needed is Christ esteem.
Not self-knowledge, but God knowledge, knowing Him.
Not self-awareness, but Christ awareness.
Christ's identity is the solid anchor for all who will believe.

                                                                              The world says                        Scripture teaches
 Look within  Look unto Jesus
 Self-awareness  Christ-wareness
See how great you are   See how great God is

  1. Romans 3 tells us what the natural man is.
  2. The whole scripture tells us the way for salvation from the sins of the flesh.
  3. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.
  4. Man's ways are not God's ways.
  5. Those who honor God, God will honor them.
  6. Those who are ashamed of Him, He will be ashamed of them.
  7. Except we repent, we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.
  8. We must not white-wash our sins. See John 3:14 for a picture of how we should recognize the sin that bit us.
  9. Remember the cross.
  10. It preceeded the resurrection.
  11. Specific troubles can require specific acknowledgement of sin and repentance.

There is more to be said. As time permits will add to this.
