The assignment is reproduced below for your evaluation.
Consider the time this took.
Read the chapters.
Pick out topics from those chapters.
Find those topics on the internet. This is not so easy as you may think at first thought. Try it!
Find art work, and pictures for those topics. This can seem to take forever sometimes.

Please recognize the lack of depth on any one topic, the lack of narrative, the conditioning to sound-bites.

Now multiply that time by 26 topics.
Now simplify it down for elementary school.
Now make it look pretty, color it, lay out the art work.
Now count your time and see how much history you've learned.
Then remember that the entire system at every level has tried to tell me they don't have time in the curriculum for doing a better job on the foundations of American history.
This assignment shows you why our students don't know enough history to fill a thimble. Signed: Larry A. Rice, 4908 George, Wichita Falls, Tx 76302 Oct 29, 2000
