A Tall Glass of Milk
When Peter wrote "...as new born babes, desire ye the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby..."
He was not calling them babes. He was speaking to people who were not babes; they had endured many trials and hardships for Christ's sake. They were tested and proven, they were strong, solid in the faith. He wanted them to take their eyes off themselves and their circumstances and look unto their Savior. He would remind them that He who had begun a good work in them was faithful to finish it.
So why did he say "...as new born babes,"
He wanted them to do what new born believers do, that is to DESIRE to hear the things God has done for us in Christ. For thereby we grow.
It matters not how long or strong we are in the faith. We grow by hearing what God has done for us in Christ. Each time we consider things He has done for all in Christ, like a lily in the valley, we grow.
Consider how the lilies grow. It's not by their effort, it's by God.
Which of you by taking thought can make yourself grow one inch?

Christ is my life.
He has made me to lay down in green pastures.
He anoints my head with oil,
He leads me beside the still waters, as He leads me away from torment and anxiety, from the jousting winds of events, and gives me peace.
He says Peace, be still; and I am in His rest, knowing He watches over me.
He knew me from before my mother's womb.
He delights in me and calls me blessed.
He picks me up when I stumble
He makes His light to shine in my heart
He gives me peace in the midst of turmoil
He makes goodness and mercy to follow me all the days of my life.
He sent His Spirit and convinced my heart of sin and righteousness and of
judgment
He makes grace reign through righteousness
He has given me the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ
He has given me the peace of God
He has given me the love of God
He has shown me the mercy of God
He is faithful to finish the good work He has begun in me.
