The administration is hooking together things that shouldn't be tied together.
We should not be forced to vote for their new building program just to get a water fountain fixed.
Parents and students have asked for better air, water fountains, and bathrooms for oh, 20 years.
Do we get it? No. But we did get a new school. And a great school was shut down.
Things Parents Could Get Done
Physics: physical demonstrations for understanding instead of computer calculations to 3 decimals
Chemistry: connect it to everyday living, food, health, drugs, the kitchen, additives, nutrition
Math and reasoning: Tie the foundation ideas to other areas besides just that one problem.
History: Teach the historically recognized foundations of American government as our Founding Fathers did. Let the students see what the first five presidents said about the Declaration of Independence and what the First Supreme Court Justice said. Original Intent by David Barton.
Western Civilization and the Bible and Christian history in church, math, physics, chemistry.
Reading: Recommended reading lists with parental comments by each title made available to all
Goals: Explain the conflict between Classical and Progressive education, School to Work stuff.
Absolutes: Explain the conflict between Absolutes and "Everything's Good."
Teach again the foundations of reading, how to study, review, learn and understand.
Restore some basic physical equipment to science rooms (see Julius Sumner Miller, physics)
Give exercise to the children. Cut out some of the busy work of collage and other time wasters.
I've seen students given a two week collage assignment for history and they learned zilch.
The system administrators seem to want to bring new curriculum, new methods, and new testings but they don't want to have open disclosure of any controversial teaching methods and contents.
And based on the track record since 1991 until parents stand up for their children things will continue into "newness" leaving tried and true, tested and proven further behind till it's forgotten completely, and the generations that knew the difference just died off.
Vote NO as many times as it takes until they talk with full disclosure about choices parents could have for the children in a New Elective Class. Until parents learn what is changing in the classroom why should the administration focus their attention on the buildings? Isn't that what magicians do? Mis-direction?
New Elective Class = Vote No to tearing down school buildings
Vote No new buildings until we get curriculum talks more than brick talks.
Classroom content is 1000 times more important
than buildings and administration;
yet they refuse for 15 years to make parents aware of important choices that could be provided for the children. I know, 'cause that's how long I've asked.
A New Elective Class must be more important than new buildings with the same old down hill curriculum. A vote of NO to the school bond is the only hope I see to get their attention on the true issues of school, classroom content.
