Attitudes

Uproot the rotten and plant the good

Some attitudes need to be uprooted. This requires wisdom and discernment how and what to talk about with the student.

Things like hatred of teacher, school, learning, books or a too strong preference to play (substitute many other things here, watch tv, games, ...), or seeking too much pleasure or entertainment.

A good theme to establish is respect of teacher and authority equates to bringing honor to oneself and family.

Some need to be planted. Such as the "Love of learning".

If you care about the student,... if you love the student...instead of just being authoritative like "I'm gonna help fix you and there's nothing you can do about it.", then you have a good oportunity to help that student. Such an attitude changes the way you present yourself to the one you want to help.
